APACS Sponsored players win in Melbourne
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian shuttlers Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen scored a first in their careers as independent players when they emerged as the men’s doubles champions in convincing fashion at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
The duo, who left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) fold this year, showed that they were a class above India’s Rupesh Kumar-Sanave Thomas when they romped to a 21-13, 21-11 win in just 28 minutes.
Teik Chai-Bin Shen currently play for the Malaysia’s professional outfit KLRC Bhd and they are being sponsored by Apacs.
Kedahan Teik Chai was over the moon with their first win as a pair.
“It is a great boost for us. This however, would not have been possible without the support from our sponsors – KLRC and Apacs. They had faith in us,” said Teik Chai in a telephone interview.
“Bin Shen and I played well and applied the right strategy against the Indians to grab the opportunity to win our first title together,” he said.
